Hey everyone and happy Monday! I am back at work this week after a lovely few days off last week and thankfully it’s not as bad as I had imagined. I’m not going away on holiday this year due to saving for a house and a wedding (I’m still not over it…😭) so I wasn’t too far travelled apart from an over night stay in Belfast.
It was totally unlike me, but I had two events to go to last week and because they were both in Belfast, me and Nicole from Diet Starts on Monday thought we’d stay up. The first event was The Only Just Media Summit on Thursday in the Titanic Hotel, and then we had the West Coast Cooler Fashion Week Press Launch on Friday afternoon. It was definitely a great couple of days!
Organised by 20-year-old, Lucy McMullan from Only Just Lucy, I thought the Only Just Media Summit was a fantastic event for all those in attendance.
Speakers included local and international influencers, BNL Video Production company and brands who all gave interesting insights into the world of social media and influencer marketing.
It was an all day event and I couldn’t believe how quickly it flew in, I really thought I would of got bored half way through but nope! Instead of going over everything I thought I would tell you the top 3 things I learned on the day.
1. Know your WHY
A few people talked about this but Matthew Thompson from the Best in Belfast Podcast really focused on this. It goes for every single one of us. Why are you doing what your doing? He made us all think about why we started our blogs, YouTube channels or businesses. And naturally I thought about my own reason behind The Big F Word.
I’ve wanted to start a blog since I was 17 but was always far too scared about what other people would think so it was always an idea that got shoved to the back of my mind. I remember starting an account on Blogger and writing fashion posts but never told anyone (including my friends and family) and somehow I just expected it to grow magically. Silly me!
As I got older I stopped caring about other people and my love of writing and fashion grew and grew. Fast forward nearly two years and here we are. But WHY am I doing this?
To keep it short and sweet, I love talking about, looking at and wearing pretty clothes and I love being creative with writing. So why not combine the two?
It might sound stupid as hell, but I know there are hundreds if not thousands of other people out there who love reading fashion magazines and blogs – myself included. So why not get involved too? If I can tell someone about a bargain or two and help them pick out an outfit, then my job is done.
2. Create more video content and make it interesting AF
Video content is the way forward, and it’s prioritised on every social media platform over any other kind of post. So what better way to connect with your followers and grow your blog? If only it was that easy!
Video scares the absolute bejeezus out of me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Why are we so scared to hear our own voices played back? I don’t even know! But one thing is for sure is that I need to get out of my comfort zone and start doing it.
It’s much more engaging, it’s so much easier for people to quickly skim over on the hourly social media scroll and it really is the way forward.
As much as I hate to admit it, lengthy blog posts are a dying breed, along with newspaper and magazine articles. So you heard it here first, expect to see much more video content on The Big F Word very soon. (Unless I back out and give up …promise I won’t).
3. Create value
A lot of emphasis was put on creating value for your readers or viewers. This is something that Retro Flame always talks about and as her biggest fan I already knew the importance of this. But what value am I giving my readers?
It got me thinking. While I might think finding incredible bargains are adding value, there are more things I could be doing so I’m going to have a long hard think about my blog posts and see if I can incorporate more added value into my blog post schedule for the next while.
I want to create a community of fellow fashion lovers who can talk together about their fashion finds and what the biggest trends are at the minute.
If there is anything you would like to see on here, please leave me a comment below or send me a DM on Instagram and I’ll be sure to get working on it.
In the mean time I’m going to dive onto the sofa and catch up on some of my programmes and I’ll be back soon with more content. Have a great week!
