Spots Vs Stripes

Spots and stripes have been a fashionable favourite forever now. Who doesn’t love a simple striped tee and jeans look? Or a polka dot frilly number?

Whether you’re a polka-dot loving kind of gal, or enjoy a vertical pin-stripe, you’ll be glad to hear that one of your favourite prints is making a big impact in Spring and Summer this year.

Spots and stripes are one of 2018’s biggest trends and you’ll notice them coming into stores very soon in every shape, size and colour. If you really want to up the fashion stakes, mix them together for a fresh spin on the age-old trend.

You’ll see a lot of monochrome in the shops right now, which looks great, but as we head into spring don’t be afraid to branch out and inject some colour into your wardrobe. If you’re scared of prints, spots or stripes are a great way to start adding them into your daily looks gradually, the only question is; which one do you prefer? I can’t make up my mind!!

I got this wee polka dot dress in DV8 reduced from £25.99 to £8.99 over the weekend and I love it. Green is also set to be a big trend this season and I am buzzing!! Green is my favourite colour and I can’t wait to stock up on some beautiful pieces, there’s a jumper in River Island I’ve already got my eye on.

The polka-dot is making a big come-back in 2018 and has already made it’s way into the early Spring stock in some stores. The most stylish, and versatile, colour-way is monochrome, teamed with a red lip or a bright yellow accessory; however they look great in bright colours as well.

Asos dress

The fun and flirty trend looks great on skirts, tops and trousers however if you’re too scared to try the look, why not introduce it with accessories first. Dotty tights or a light-weight scarf are great ideas to sample the trend in an inexpensive way before committing to it.

Topshop trousers

You can play it safe with the traditional polka-dot print, however if you really want to keep it bang up to date, abstract spots look great in asymmetrical cuts, giving it an edgy and fresh twist to the classic print. Whether you stick to tiny, little dots or go full-frontal in a large graphic print, you’ll look great regardless. The trend will take you right through to Summer as it has been sampled in swim-wear collections already, so if you see something you like stock up now before it’s too late.

Stripes made a big impression in a lot of London Fashion Week’s SS18 shows. Bold, vertical stripes were the main focus with many designers dressing models in a head-to-toe stripy ensembles. Satin proved to look the best, with brightly coloured blouses looking great with bold white stripes.

Mango dress

The great thing about this trend is vertical stripes can be one of the most flattering prints as it elongates the silhouette. If you want to add length to short legs, simply wear a pair of flared, vertical print trousers and they’ll make your legs look like they go on for miles. Thank me later!

It’s a trend which will be seen across menswear as well as ladies, so keep an eye out when you are shopping for the other half., Valentines is coming up ladies!
