‘Out with the old and in with the new’ would have to be one of my favourite sayings. As cliche as it is, it is always great to get a fresh start and what better time that January.
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say sometimes I can get into a bit of a style rut, pulling out the same things from my wardrobe on the daily, and living in plain skinny jeans. I find this happens during Winter the most, because I tend to think, ‘Sure I’m just going to end up wearing a big coat and scarf anyways, who cares what I’m wearing?’
Well this January I am making three style resolutions for 2018, and I am going to stick to them, no matter how cold it is! Adding layers does not mean you have to compensate on style.
1. Wear more prints
So I have noticed my wardrobe becoming quite plain, and ‘safe’. I was going through a bit of a phase where I thought daring prints were tacky, but now I’m in love with them and can’t wait to start injecting them into my wardrobe again.
One big thing I am going to try this year is not to be so ‘safe’ and clash prints a lot more. Looking at colour palettes instead of what necessarily matches is a good way to do this. A massive trend at the minute is clashing spots with stripes, so if you’re like me and want to venture outside of your comfort zone, maybe start with that.
2. Ditch the skinny jeans
I am a self confessed skinny jean lover, and I practically live in them. I am wearing them right now as I type this..whoops! I am that ‘jeans and a nice top’ kind of gal. BTW have you seen Miss Guided’s new section dedicated to the lazy girl trend? Great marketing technique guys, every one is talking about it.
So I did a massive clear out of my wardrobe recently and I got rid of about six pairs of skinny jeans, and only allowed my self to keep four. But they are all in different styles so it’s OK, or so I’m telling myself.
This year I am going to try and buy more tailored trousers and skirts, which you can dress up or down. This skirt I wore out over the weekend, I wear it to work as well as on nights out, so I get loads of wear out of it. I’m going to keep an eye out for more styles like this.
3. Add more colour
Again, like with the prints, I tend to stick to the same colours all the time, but this year I’m going to add more colour into my wardrobe as much as I can. It doesn’t have to be brights, but could be pastel’s or neutrals but I’m going to try and add a lot more in. I wear a lot of black, which is fine if you love it, but I don’t even know if I do. I think it’s just ‘handy’ and matches everything.
So there you have it, three simple style resolutions that I am going to remind myself whenever I’m shopping over the next 12 months. Why don’t you have a think about your wardrobe and things you’d like to change and set yourself three style resolutions like me. A good starting point is clearing out your wardrobe and seeing what you have way too much off, and what you’d like to add in.
My outfit details from this post are all in store at the minute and you can find them:
As always, thanks for reading. I hope you are loving the new theme and domain as much as I am; I promise there is a lot more to come in 2018 from The Big F Word.
